Overview
The National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR) is an electronic database, reminder and recall system for bowel and cervical cancer screening which can be used by patients and clinicians.

Accessing the NCSR
Patient portal access the Participant portal by logging into their My Gov account and linking in the National Cancer Screening Register tile. Patients will need to verify their ID.

Access through PRODA

Log on to PRODA . If you don’t have an account, register by following the steps in the PRODA section of the HPOS article.

Select National Cancer Screening Register portal tile

Link PRODA account to NCSR portal by selecting which type of user you are:
- Medical Provider
- Cervical screening test providers without a medical provider number – use State and Territory Access Number/ Register Identification Number-
- Practice / Laboratory Staff acting on behalf of a provider- Practices Managers, Practice Nurses and/or laboratory staff. You may need to delegated access by a Medical Provider.

Integrating NCSR into clinical software

Best Practice

Go to the BP Home screen, top left-hand side and select the Set Up menu
-
Select Configuration and scroll down the left-hand side to the FHIR icon

Click to install BP FHIR API
-
Click Yes to download and BP FHIR Installation will open
-
Once installed, the BP FHIR service Port is set at 9000
-
Open BP Practice Software in desktop files

Go into BP Support folder (BPS)

Scroll down and click BP. Ports Utility and select Run as administrator

BP Ports Setup Utility will open on Best Practice and all boxes need to be selected. Click OK to open FHIR port and click Save

Open the BP home screen on the top left-hand side select Set Up, select Configuration, and open General tab.

In General tab, select Enable National Cancer Screening Registry Integration box and click Save

Once completed, you need to set up individual providers. From BP home screen go to Setup and select Preferences

Select user and click Enable NSCR Functionality box then click the Save & Close button

A prompt will appear to download and install the NSCR portal, click Yes

NCSR is integrated into Best Practice

Medical Director

Open Medical Director and access the sidebar

Click New on the top right-hand corner to add a new widget

Locate the NCSR Hub widget

Click and install

In the widget, Access Permission NCSR Hub tick the apply to all boxes for all users to access the NCSR hub

Using the NCSR
Patients
After linking, NCSR patients can:
- View test dates
- Order bowel test kit
- Replace Participant details form
- Opt out, defer and resume participation
- Cease and resume correspondence
- Add and update personal details
- Nominate health provider.
Using the NCSR via PRODA
After accessing the NCSR portal through the NCSR portal, clinicians can:

Search eligible participants/patients-

Enter participant’s medical identifier such as Medicare card number, sex, date of birth, given and family name.

Click search

Select participant’s file. On the right-hand side select the program you want to access.

Review participant/patient screening dates and results

Update participant/patent details

Submit forms and reports electronically

Order individual and bulk order iFOBT kits
Using the NCSR in Best Practice

To review patient’s participation, open the patient file in BP, click view and select NCSR hub

You are now in the patient’s NCSR portal
-
NCSR notification will appear in the notification section of the BP patient record
*NCSR notifications cannot be removed
Using the NCSR in Medical Director

NCSR notifications will appear in the notification section of the patient file
Bulk ordering Faecal Occult Blood test (iFOBT) kits
The Alternate Access Model allows general practices to bulk order immunochemical Faecal Occult Blood Test (iFOBT) kits through the National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR).
Ordering iFOBT kits

Log on to PRODA

Access the NCSR portal

In the NCSR portal, click Bulk Order iFOBT kits

Complete the order form with your details. For a new delivery address, select Enter new delivery address for this order

Scroll down and select the number of iFOBT kits you require. Order numbers depend on how many doctors work at your clinic. Complete all fields with a red Asterix. If you are ordering more than thirty kits, you need to select the appropriate reason.

Select the acknowledgement box and click submit to confirm order

You will receive an order number and the order will arrive at your clinic within 10 business days. Your order will appear in the Bulk order section in the NCSR Portal.
Distributing iFOBT kits to patients/participants

In NCRS portal, search participant/patient

Select Forms tab underneath patient/participant details on the left-hand side

Select Choose a Form on the right-hand side
-
Choose the NBCSP- Alternate Access Model (Issue/Re-issue kit) and click continue

Check patient/participants details and update if required. Complete the self-care, mobility, and communication section if the patient/participant requires assistance with completing the test or communicating. Click continue

Select reason for re-issuing kit. Document the date the kit was issued and the kit’s expiry date. Tick the patient/participant consent box. Click review

Once details are correct, click Submit and Print

Give participant/patient patient/participant detail form to participant/patient . Remind them to document the date they complete the test and to sign the form. The form goes into the pre-pay envelope with specimen samples. The participant/patient post sealed envelope containing signed consent form and specimens to the NCSR.

A notification will appear in the alerts section of the patient/participants NCSR portal that the patient/participant has receive a kit via the Alternate Access Model

In My Correspondence, you will be informed if the NCSR has received the patient/participants iFOBT kit.

Always double check participant/patient details

Complete NBCSP- Alternate Access Model (Issue/Re-Issue kit) form for all patients/participant who you receive iFOBT kits from your practice

When distributing iFOBT kits to participants/patients, document the iFOBT kit expiry date. Please note that iFOBT kits have a shelf life of seven-months
